Seven-time grand slam champion and former world number one John McEnroe believes that Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina can pose a threat to Iga Swiatek’s number-one ranking on the WTA list.
Rybakina and Sabalenka faced in the Australian Open finals, where the Belarus player won her first grand slam title. McEnroe commented on Aryna’s success recently.
“I’m very happy for Sabalenka. She went through a lot on both emotional and mental levels. People wondered whether or not she could overcome the situation she found herself in, and she stepped up.”
It is evident that both Rybakina and Sabalenka show a lot of promise, and McEnroe thinks that both of them can threaten Swiatek’s status as the best player on the planet. She had a fantastic season and convincingly ended 2022. However, she got eliminated at the Australian Open, which might give hope to her opponents.
