Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud finished the series of exhibition games across South America and Mexico. In the fifth and the last match of the series in Mexico City, Nadal managed to best Ruud in two sets – 7:6, 6:4.
However, he had a surprising statement for the fans in Mexico right after the game, and he said that this was the last time he’s competing in their country.
When the game finished, he had the following to say: “It will most likely be the last time I play in Mexico, Acapulco 2023 is not on my calendar, and the 2024 season seems far away,” Nadal said on Thursday. “Now is the time to enjoy this moment to the fullest and play in an emblematic setting, with many people and in a country where I have always felt loved.”
