In a highly-anticipated first-round match at the Miami Open, Emma Raducanu suffered a defeat to fellow former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu. Raducanu, who had won the US Open in 2021, lost to Andreescu in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
This was their second meeting, with their previous encounter in Rome last year ending with Raducanu retiring at a set and 2-1 down.
Despite winning three matches at Indian Wells last week, Raducanu was unable to continue her momentum and was eliminated by Andreescu, who now advances to face seventh seed Maria Sakkari in the next round.
Raducanu had impressed in her run to the round of 16 at Indian Wells, where she faced world No.1 Iga Swiatek, losing in straight sets. Despite this, she has shown great potential and has already achieved significant success at a young age.
